Researchers at the Department of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences, University of León, located in Ponferrada, have shown that calcium is useful to hold to maturity in the organic production of a variety of plum. To date, there was no documentation on the role of culture environment and storage time on the ripeness of this fruit in organic production. The researchers are currently working on incorporating calcium treatments in both the field and after harvest to improve the conservation and fruit quality. The plum is a fruit that is produced in El Bierzo.
