Just six months have elapsed since its launch but the SMOS mission of the European Space Agency (ESA, for its acronym in English) has already obtained the first images. Snapshots on the brightness temperature will be used to understand global changes in soil moisture and ocean salinity to further the knowledge of the water cycle.
Launched on 2 November, the mission ‘Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity’ (SMOS) is providing information on the water cycle of the Earth by global observations of moisture and ocean salinity. So far, these parameters had been measured from space and are keys to understanding the water cycle and climate variability.

The glaciations that occurred 444 million years ago at the south pole of the ancient Gondwana macrocontinente, covering Africa, South America, Antarctica, India, Australia and parts of China, reached the European continent, according to research in the works of variant Perjures railway.
The works have uncovered several tanks glaciomarinos unknown in Cantabrian mountain range investigated by a team led by geologist of the Conejos Superior de Investigations Scientifics (CSIC) Juan Carlos Gutierrez-Marco.

Last Thursday at Berkeley held the Berkeley Energy Symposium bringing together a wide range of industry representatives, researchers and lobbyists involved in clean technologies. Among them Philip Moeller, one of five representatives at the head of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), said that the U.S. needs to update the network of transmission lines.

The Taiwanese press has recently echoed an international classification created by the German nongovernmental organization German Watch and the Climate Action Network (CAN) Europe comparing the performance of different policies against global warming. Taiwan is ranked relatively poorly (47th) , ie slightly above China (52nd) and the United States (53rd) but after countries like the United Kingdom (6th), the Germany (7th) or France (8th).
Taiwan is not a UN member and therefore non-signatory to the Protocol of Kyoto.

The giant European aerospace industry, EADS, plans to create a research center dedicated to biofuels. Its technical director, Dr. Jean Botti, said the parent company of Airbus and Eurocopter plans to collaborate with the Singapore government agency A * STAR (Agency for Science, Technology & Research) to work jointly on developing bio-fuel from algae.
