Solar physicist David Hathaway has been watching the Sun every day since 1998, and every day for six years found sunspots. Sunspots are “islands” sized planets, which appear on the surface of the sun are dark, cool, powerfully magnetized, and fleeting: a typical sunspot lasts only a few days or weeks before disappearing. As soon as one disappears, another emerges to take its place.

Even during the period of solar minimum activity, you can see one or two sunspots. But when Hathaway looked on 28 January 2004, there were none. The sun was utterly blank.

And the same happened again last week, twice, 11 and 12 October. There were no sunspots.

The origin of life remains a mystery after 200 years.

The Origin of Species Darwin contains a question that could not answer. How did the first living being that gave rise to the species? Biologist eluded post a reply, perhaps for lack of evidence or perhaps because of their religious beliefs. A century later there is still no conclusive evidence, but two opposing schools. One notes that the first life on Earth originated when the planet was young. Others have no doubt that came from space.

Only a few months ago, Professor Janos Hajto, of Napier University, Scotland, announced the creation of a paper that glows in the dark. “Its use in the pages of the book ends with the traditional marital discussions about when to turn off the light of the bedside table,” sneered the newspapers published the next day. The most curious of the invention was that, to read about the unique role, it goes without electricity: its luminescence is the result of the combination of a special dye with very thin plastic fibers. Dye molecules take the surrounding light and transform it into light of a specific color. “This amplifies the signal light and concentrates it – says Professor Hajto – so that when released is 30 percent brighter than the light that surrounds him.

Researchers at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid have found, through analysis of cosmic microwave background according to an alternative to the standard cosmological model, the universe could have a positive spatial curvature, similar to the surface of a sphere. The findings offer a possible alternative to the idea commonly accepted that the universe is spatially flat.

The article in which plasma this work has been published in the journal Physical Review D, Whereas the theoretical development of alternative to the standard cosmological model, published in this magazine, was the subject of a review and featured article in the prestigious journal Nature Physics. This time the researchers have gone a step further by comparing the predictions of this new proposed model with the observations of supernova explosions, cosmic microwave background and structure of the universe on a large scale.
